Clinical Supervision for Psychotherapists

Empowering Your Professional Growth
As psychotherapists, we devote our careers to helping others. But it’s just as vital to nurture our own professional development. That’s where clinical supervision comes in—a dedicated, structured space to refine your therapeutic skills, explore challenging cases, and deepen your safe and effective use of self in your clinical work.

What Is Clinical Supervision According to CRPO?

The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) defines clinical supervision as a contractual relationship in which:

  1. A clinical supervisor and supervisee discuss the direction of therapy and the therapeutic relationship.

  2. The supervisee’s professional growth is promoted.

  3. The supervisee’s safe and effective use of self in the therapeutic relationship is enhanced.

  4. The well-being of the client is safeguarded.

In other words, supervision is a critical component in developing competence, ethical practice, and clinical confidence—regardless of your level of experience

Your Supervision Options

1. Individual Supervision

  • One-on-one focus: Personalized support to delve deep into client cases, ethical dilemmas, and professional goals.

  • Tailored growth: Refine your therapeutic approach, identify your learning edges, and receive constructive feedback specific to your style.

  • Flexible scheduling: We’ll work around your availability to ensure you can fit supervision into your busy life.

2. Dyadic Supervision

  • Working in pairs: Share the cost and benefits of supervision with one colleague, fostering mutual support and fresh insights.

  • Personalized matching: Don’t have a partner lined up? We can help connect you with a suitable professional to form a dyad.

3. Group Supervision

  • Collaborative environment: Join up to eight peers in monthly sessions to discuss a variety of client cases and psychotherapy topics.

  • Diverse perspectives: Benefit from shared insights, experiences, and supportive feedback in a cost-effective format.

  • Meets CRPO requirements: Group supervision is valid as long as it’s formally structured and led by (or includes) a clinical supervisor who meets CRPO’s definition.

Note: Informal “peer supervision,” where colleagues casually discuss cases, does not meet CRPO requirements for registration. To count toward supervision hours, it must be a structured process involving at least one clinical supervisor or a member who qualifies as one.
